Snowflakes

Although I don't know her, these patterns by Renata Niemczyk were posted for free on her Facebook page.  I found the repurposed vintage thread was very soft so the buttons and beads gave the snowflakes structure.  I have made many many of her patterns.

I found that the pattern could accommodate most sizes of buttons, 

 

 

In and out snowflakes

It must be ten years ago that I first saw these flakes by Renulek on her blog.  I replaced a tiny ring with a Josephine ring in the top one.  Done in a DMC  size 80 thread they are about 5 cm point to point.  I made these for myself as most of my tatted flakes get given away especially this time of year. 

The rounds are all made separately, with the first two interwoven before you complete the third.  

 

Round 6

This round was an easy tat, just rings and chains all the same count.  On to number seven. 

I am using a vintage Coats & Clarks color 13 size 70 along with a DMC color 67 size 80. I have been able to climb to each new round so far.

Silver Bells

Sorry, no Christmas tunes here, just tatting.  These are two bells I have tatted before but with a Sanbest thread to make them sparkly and using up my chandelier crystals.  

The first bell is a pattern by Ewa, she shares the pattern on her blog.

The second bell is by  Renulek and the pattern was available on her Etsy site. I left off the last row. 

 

Using a Hakelgarn

I have started the Renulek Spring Wiosna 2021 and this is rows one and two.  The pattern can be found on her blog, posted once a week or you can purchase the entire pattern from her Etsy  site.  

I recall my first Spring Wiosna was before my mother passed and I used her shuttles and thread.  I think I even have one year in my WIP drawer. 

For the Wiosna 2021 I am using a size 20 thread called Hakelgarn color 2006 This is a beautiful thread to work with and I don't believe it is being made anymore but I have two balls of this color and that should be enough to complete the Wiosna. 

I have also sent off  Day 11 of the TIAS and my progress is below.

We still don't know what this will be.  One more bead to go but there is still quite a bit of thread left on my shuttles. 

Three Flakes

These snowflakes appeared on Renulek's blog many years ago.  I always wanted to do them and this was the year. Renulek also has an Etsy page where you can purchase her designs. 

I used an ivory Coats size 20 vintage thread.  Each flake is created in three parts, three rounds with first round intertwined with the second. 

I have sent these off in an exchange arranged by the Fringe Element tatters so I will create three more for my own collection.

Still Another Angel

I purchased the set of 3d Angels from Renata Niemczyk/Renulek from her etsy site.  I used a  vintage thread Coats 30.  They are less than 2.5 inches tall .  I used a white pearl bead  about 14mm.   

Each angel is constructed the same but each has a different finish to the skirt which makes them even more unique.  I need to make a few more because these are already spoken for and I'd like a few for my tree.

Wiosna 2018 Completed

 It took too long but I finally finished this doily started last year.  I was able to climb to each round except one.

I used a King Tut quilting thread by Superior Threads color 918. 

The finished blocked diameter is 12.5 inches or 32 cm. 

Now on to the next unfinished project.

Wiosna Row 9 and 10

I finally had time to do another round on the Wiosna doily.  I didn't like that round 9 wasn't attached and had to be careful that the thread did not catch.  I did some slight blocking  and it all sits great.

I am still climbing to the next round.  By knowing what lies ahead it is easy to plan ahead.

I am using a King Tut quilting thread by Superior Threads color 918.  That is a yellow clover and a pop-a-bobbin shuttle for size reference. 

The current diameter is 5.75 inches or 19.7 cm.

Wiosna Row 7

This is the butterfly round and it was not easy. I didn't like how there was a hole in the center of  the butterflies (aka gaposis) Another tatter, Cyn suggested I change the order of the tatting by doing the chain first.  I did this after about halfway round and was able to finish the round and climb to the next.  Yes there were a few rings that had to be undone but I am finally moving on.

Wiosna Row 5

On Thursdays Renulek posts another round of her spring doily. Row 5 has been posted and it tats up very quickly. 

I could see on image where the next round attaches and the middle picot of those chains seemed the best place to climb to the next round.  I didn't need to reload my shuttles but will take the time this weekend to have them ready.

I have finished up a few tatting projects so I need to clean up my table, put threads away, organize the cabinet and decide what I will tat next. 

I am using a King Tut quilting thread by Superior Threads color 918.

The current diameter is 3.75 inches or 9.5 cm.

Wiosna 2018 Row 4

Row 4 has been posted on Renulek's blog and I have completed the round.  I found a mistake on the previous round, of course when I was almost around but I'm not going to start over.  I've stretched and spaced the thread to make up for the missed stitches.

I have used a split ring to climb to the next round.  I didn't wind these bobbins and shuttle full so I expect to add thread on the next round. 

I never use a knot when adding thread unless it is a change of color

I am using a King Tut Quilting thread by Superior Threads color 918.  This thread is much easier to use than the Sulky thread I used a few years ago. The current size is 3 inches or 7.75 cm.

Wiosna 2018 Row 3

Row 3 has been posted on Renulek's blog and I have almost completed the round.  I am ready to start the split ring to climb on to round 4 but I am not sure what picot would work best.  By best I mean what do I need to do to finish the round and make it easier to go on to the next round and so on.

If you have never made a split chain this is a good reason to learn how to do it. Just estimate a bit shorter as all that tugging will make it grow anyways. Also, if you get a point, these usually disappear by the time you get to the next round.

Wiosna 2018 Row 2

I have now completed row 2 of Renulek Spring Doily aka Wiosna 2018.  It is still tiny, only 3 cm or 1.13 inches across. I am using a King Tut Thread color 918. 

This center is similar to a recent snowflake of hers I did.  The King Tut Thread tends to show a little wear as you tat so I will be putting the doily into a ziplock bag and only have the edge I am working on peeking out to reduce that wear.

Wiosna 2018 Row 1

Today is Thursday so that means that another row will be revealed by Renulek.  I am using a King Tut Thread color 918. Because of the short color change it will be interesting to see if one color dominates or disappears.

It is smaller than size 80 and a bit twisty so you need to adjust your tatting.  I used this before when I put trim on some shirts last year.

Day 6 TIAS 2018

Day 6 still does not bring us any closer to knowing what this will be.  I still have those two little beads on my shuttle so I know we still need to make the eyes. 

My most recent guess is that this is a cone shaped had and there will be a pompom tatted for those two picots on the end of the curled part.  Jane never tells us if we are right until near the end.  There will probably be another ten installments so more chances to guess

Renulek Snowflakes

These are the last of the snowflakes I tatted last year.  They are both from the Renulek blog.  The designer Renata Niemczyk also has an Etsy page where she sells tatting patterns.  There is still one more snowflake of her's I just didn't get to yet.  Renata is an excellent designer. 

For the past few years she has given us a Spring Doily to tat along with others. She will post the next round about once a week.  I completed my first doily following her along row by row.  It was not my best work but I learned a lot that year. 

Bells

Here are a few bells.  The one with the ribbon is actually crochet (my design) and was a favor I handed out at my wedding.   I had a few leftover from the wedding and have put them up on the tree every year.

I recall I made about 140 bells, the ribbon has our names on one end and the date on the other.  The bell is a little yellow but still holds its shape.  My guess is that the stiffener has turned yellow. 

The second bell is shown in detail on green, it is a pattern from Renulek and available on her Etsy site.  A nice size bell, made in three rounds. It holds its shape and needs no stiffener.

The next bell is a pattern I found on Pinterest and traced back to this website. The designer is Ewa.

Finally the smallest bell is a great pattern by Roberta D'Annaballe.

All the tatted bells were done in Lizbeth 601 Snow White size 20.  I believe the one with the ribbon was done in Daisy size 30.

Spring Wiosna 2017 Round 12

A quick look at how I finished this round with a split chain. Now to climb to the next row, mock picot and split ring, I'll add the pink back in only when I need to. My plan it to do a slight modification on the final round. The doily is almost 12 inches across with one more row to go, it is laying quite flat and I will wait until it is done to block it.

Spring Wiosna 2017 Round 11

Between all my other bits of tatting and yard work  including getting the garden in I have finally finished Round 11.   My plan is to do a row of plain light green and then finish off with some additional pink.

The colors of this doily are truly classic and this spring my flowering almond tree also bloomed these colors of spring.
