Cap or hat

This all started on a facebook post when a few of the gals decided that they wanted to complete a hat to wear at Fringe.   It is done in a J&P Coats  ecru Size 10.  The pattern is by Jan Stawasz and in the model it fits down on the eyebrows. 

I have done a few of  his patterns before and knew that he pulls his chains really tight so I did this but still the pattern seemed too large.  I had to omit  the last row of chains and adjust those split ring rows to get  a fit. 

Someone had suggested that I make a lining but I found this no label ball cap and it made sense to attach the lace to it.  Now I need to finish by putting some embellishment on the brim.  

I will be wearing it this week. 

More Than Tatting

Back from "The Fringe Element Tat Days  2016" and had a marvelous time.  It was good to connect with friends and make new ones all while enjoying my passion for tatting.  

This knitted snowman was tucked into one of the prizes, I also came home with a lovely purple knitted shawl, custom made hand warmers, bead accessories and beads, napkin holder, quilt patterns, misc sewing, knit and crochet patterns.   There is much more than tatting at conferences and the artist that bring and share their work make the event so much richer.

Last year we were given a small blue round pill box and asked to do something with it and bring it back for next year's competition. Well my Easter Chick  fit on perfectly so off he went to be entered into the competition.  I really didn't think that anything would happen but I won the fan favorite.  Thank you all for your votes.

While in Cambridge, Ontario I added a few inches, to my tatting library of course and to the right is a sample of the new books.  I did receive a book that was already in my library so I offered it up to the committee for next year's prizes. 

One of the classes I took was a Celtic tatting class from Jennifer Williams who traveled all the way from the UK to teach us.  I made this small yellow motif. Sheila B was collecting tatting motif's for a quilt she is working on so she now has it.  I do like Celtic tatting and this technique was one I was not familiar with.  You do need to use a Celtic shuttle and I believe you will be seeing more of these from me.

I would write more but you really should take in a conference if you can or just get together with others to tat, it is truly rewarding.

Jan Stawasz Moje Robotki 8/2007 Huge Doily tat-along Row 10 and 11

It is hard to believe I did this myself. I have only been tatting for a few years and would never have thought that I could get this far on such a big project. I am feeling quite accomplished but am reminded that there are still another seven rows before completion.

While ironing, I found one of the inner mofits had come undone so I needed to retat part of it. Painful task but needed to be done. 

I am using Aida 10, ecru and the doily currently measures 27 inches or 69 cm. It is sitting flat and I have just given it a steam and slight press with the iron.

I have two of Jan Stawasz books and tatted a few other of his doilies. This pattern is from Moje Robotki 8/2007.

Happy New Year

  Sorry for the late New Years  post but just returned from a trip and had enough time to finish the Travelling Doily.  The doily was finished in the same city where it began. I am very pleased with the result.  I still have the ends to tie in, give it a wash and do a little blocking as it is already sitting nice and flat.  

I already have someone in mind to gift this to, it was made with Hakelgarn 20 color 58 pea green.

Travelling Doily

I call this my travelling doily,  I started it in the summer it was easy to pack and didn't have to worry about working with white so sometimes it was stashed into my pocket. I did lose some photos but managed to have a few to share with you today.  First up is my eyeglass case with my dollar store 4X glasses. Oh there is another bit of tatting, seems I am a good starter of projects.

This is a picture of the doily travelling against those blue skies we always have.

These next few are just nice pictures to show the pattern. 

Finally, I am on the last round, it is a tricky row with some odd stitch counts.  I have found the diagram helpful and managed to understand what direction I was going.  I hand drew and wrote out some instructions to better understand what I was doing until I had the pattern in my head.  Finished one of points only 31 left to go.

The pattern is from Tatting Theory and Patterns by Jan Stawasz and it is called Doily VI.  It is worked with Hakelgarn size 20, number 58 Pea Green.
