Tree Earrings and Tat it and See

 

These were made for an exchange with one of my guilds.  I always make extras so a few can be given away.

The pattern is from Gloria Nelson of Sparkling Light Studios.

Tat It and See 2022

Getting ready for Tat it and See 2022. If you would like to join tatters from around the world please refer to this page.   Jane is at it again and I have my shuttles ready.  

I have chosen a size 20 Lizbeth thread color 130, Island Breeze. Don't forget to send in your progress to Jane along with a guess.

Just before I took this picture I cleaned my keyboard. There were crumbs, dust, hair, beads and sequins stuck under the keys.  After a good upside shaking I removed (then replaced) a corner key and the last of the bits fell out.   

Along with the keyboard, I also have been organizing my loose pages of patterns and reviewing any projects that need to be finished.

Getting Colder

 

I am tatting the temperature using the mean of the weekly high and low. The data comes from temperatures published by Environment and Climate Change Canada. Each set (man) represents one week so I will have 52 of these when done. 

The joining of new thread is made in the ring for the head. You can see I have yet to cut the threads of the previous weeks.  I do not know what the next week temperatures will be until the week is finished so I must wait to add the new thread, thus one remains headless.

You can see a small snippet of the scale I am using in the upper portion of the picture, the degrees are in Celsius. Because we have had a warm January the colors are red but I can see us moving into a blue zone with cooler temperatures.

The pattern is called  Girotondo by Antonia (Ninetta) Caruso from Italy and she shares this free pattern on her blog.  I am using vintage threads in size 80.

Using a Hakelgarn

I have started the Renulek Spring Wiosna 2021 and this is rows one and two.  The pattern can be found on her blog, posted once a week or you can purchase the entire pattern from her Etsy  site.  

I recall my first Spring Wiosna was before my mother passed and I used her shuttles and thread.  I think I even have one year in my WIP drawer. 

For the Wiosna 2021 I am using a size 20 thread called Hakelgarn color 2006 This is a beautiful thread to work with and I don't believe it is being made anymore but I have two balls of this color and that should be enough to complete the Wiosna. 

I have also sent off  Day 11 of the TIAS and my progress is below.

We still don't know what this will be.  One more bead to go but there is still quite a bit of thread left on my shuttles. 

Day 5 TIAS 2021

 Many projects in tatting are small in compared to other crafts (IMHO) and is meant to be looked at in detail  That is why tatters spend so much time making sure we don't cross our threads and keep the picots neat and tidy.  WELL that didn't happen here.  

If you look closely which I hope you do, you will see and extra picot on ring #3.  Did you find that pink picot sticking our from the half white ring?  I didn't discover it until I was too far along to back up so I just carried on.  

In the whole scheme of things (so I've been told) this will not make a difference.  And I don't care.  I'm in it for the fun factor.

 You are encouraged to send in your tatting and gave a go at a guess to the final result.  You can even go back to prior years and do those too. 

On a more positive note you will see that I have successfully been able to complete frontside/ backside for this mystery tat.  I don't usually bother with that but this time I did. At least so far. 

 

Day 1 TIAS 2021

 Shuttles wound, here is Day One

 So if you have never heard of TIAS it stands for Tat It And See.  It is a tatalong with a twist because we don't know what the product will be at the end.  A tatter called Jane Eborall from the UK gives us the pattern to tat in pieces and we are encouraged to send in our tatting.  There is no cost and guesses are encouraged. 

It is wonderful to see all the threads and shuttles from around the world.  I often see tatters I have met or know only from facebook or instagram.  Sometimes someone guesses but Jane never lets on if they do.

Eventually we will all find out what the mystery TIAS is.

If you can do Split Rings you can do the TIAS and lucky for you she keeps all of the previous years on the TIAS blog so you can go back and play the game again.

So, any guesses?

Day 14 was a fluke

Day 14 was a fluke, well we added a fluke and had confirmation that this is a mermaid.  I see lots of picots on the head so hair is expected and Day 15 we added long locks of flowing hair.   I took the liberty of creating a bra with some rose beads.  I am pleased with the results.

I first tatted a few rings to make a bra but it just didn’t look right, then I found the perfect sized star bead but I only had the one.  Searched my stash and found these rose beads; brought back from the Philippines. 

Just another reminder that it is never too late to tat up the TIAS from this or previous years. 

When I first started following Jane's blog and found out about the TIAS I couldn't wait for the new year to arrive.  I had recently learned to use two shuttles and had made at least five split rings.  That first TIAS I was to make a split ring my friend as Jane always seems to have a lot of them in her patterns.  I like them now. 

I tatted with a size 20 Lizbeth Grape Pomegranate, and the fluke with Lizbeth Turquoise Lt.  The hair is a mix of the turquoise and some lilac and lt green DMC Cebelia.

Day 10 TIAS 2018

 Around the top of the head and another bead put in for some eyes.  Remember those two little picots at the bottom will need something attached to them. 

Many guesses including mine are that this is a little mermaid.  And I am not a stranger to them.

Day 9 TIAS 2018

We must be past the halfway mark at Day 9. One of the beads has been used and my guess is that Jane will continue around and put the other bead on another split ring.

A lot of people on the TIAS blog are guessing that this is a mermaid but Jane won't give it away. We find out when we are done.

Day 8 TIAS 2018

Here we are at day 8 about half way through.  I have put a guess in that this is a mermaid and we need to finish up the head, another arm and the fluke or tail fin.  I have never guessed correctly, perhaps this time.

Day 7 TIAS 2018

  My split rings in this last installment have curled up, not like the diagram at all.  I am not worried as Jane always has surprises in the Tat it and See.

Day 6 TIAS 2018

Day 6 still does not bring us any closer to knowing what this will be.  I still have those two little beads on my shuttle so I know we still need to make the eyes. 

My most recent guess is that this is a cone shaped had and there will be a pompom tatted for those two picots on the end of the curled part.  Jane never tells us if we are right until near the end.  There will probably be another ten installments so more chances to guess

Day 5 TIAS 2018

If you are tatting along, Jane says tomorrow will be Day 6 but I am always a day behind.

I could stay up very late and catch the post as it appears but I am more inclined to tat in the evening which means by the time I sit down to tat, Jane has already posted and received many entries, updated the blog and off to bed.  So when I send in my tatting she is sleeping and it will be posted the next day.  No need to rush.

This is not a contest of time, rather joy in participation.

Day 2 TIAS 2018

Part of the game is to give a guess as to what it could be along with your progress.  Since Jane loves to tat animals, I guess a penguin.  As this row of split rings has picots on both sides it makes sense that we have started in the middle.

Day 1 TIAS 2018

If you need a little pick me up just follow along from tatters around the world as they tat together.  Jane Eborall will give out a few stitches at least once a week and we send in pics of our little bits and guess what it will be.  So much fun to see all the shuttles and threads used and of course to see who will be the first to correctly guess.

Patterns from Agnieszka Michalowska

The patterns for these snowflakes are all from a website by Agnieszka Michalowska and here is the link. 
She has other crafts and videos on on her site like how to do a some tatting techniques. 

These were all done with a DMC 12 pearl cotton and the size of these snowflakes were all near 2 inches or 5 cm across. My favorite is the six armed snowflake and especially the negative space in the center. 

It is always interesting to see what other tatters are doing around the world. 

 

Tat it and see 1 2 3

Another year of Tat it and See has come to an end, I share my progress and the resulting tatting with you.  Of course I never guess what it is but many had it figured out early. This was done with size 20 Lizbeth 109 Wild Flower and measures 2.75 inches or 6.5 cm finished.  So much fun seeing all the tatting threads, shuttles and needles from around the globe. If you'd like to see what others have done and join in next year here is the link. 

I have a few repeats of round 17 completed on the Monster Doily and it continues to be my main focus. Happy Tatting.
