Wiosna Row 5

On Thursdays Renulek posts another round of her spring doily. Row 5 has been posted and it tats up very quickly.

I could see on image where the next round attaches and the middle picot of those chains seemed the best place to climb to the next round.  I didn't need to reload my shuttles but will take the time this weekend to have them ready.

I have finished up a few tatting projects so I need to clean up my table, put threads away, organize the cabinet and decide what I will tat next.

I am using a King Tut quilting thread by Superior Threads color 918.

The current diameter is 3.75 inches or 9.5 cm.

Day 14 was a fluke

Day 14 was a fluke, well we added a fluke and had confirmation that this is a mermaid.  I see lots of picots on the head so hair is expected and Day 15 we added long locks of flowing hair.   I took the liberty of creating a bra with some rose beads.  I am pleased with the results.

I first tatted a few rings to make a bra but it just didn’t look right, then I found the perfect sized star bead but I only had the one.  Searched my stash and found these rose beads; brought back from the Philippines.

Just another reminder that it is never too late to tat up the TIAS from this or previous years.

When I first started following Jane's blog and found out about the TIAS I couldn't wait for the new year to arrive.  I had recently learned to use two shuttles and had made at least five split rings.  That first TIAS I was to make a split ring my friend as Jane always seems to have a lot of them in her patterns.  I like them now.

I tatted with a size 20 Lizbeth Grape Pomegranate, and the fluke with Lizbeth Turquoise Lt.  The hair is a mix of the turquoise and some lilac and lt green DMC Cebelia.

Wiosna 2018 Row 4

Row 4 has been posted on Renulek's blog and I have completed the round.  I found a mistake on the previous round, of course when I was almost around but I'm not going to start over.  I've stretched and spaced the thread to make up for the missed stitches.

I have used a split ring to climb to the next round.  I didn't wind these bobbins and shuttle full so I expect to add thread on the next round.

I never use a knot when adding thread unless it is a change of color

I am using a King Tut Quilting thread by Superior Threads color 918.  This thread is much easier to use than the Sulky thread I used a few years ago. The current size is 3 inches or 7.75 cm.

Day 13 TIAS 2018

We have finished up this portion  and await instructions of what comes next.  What do you think; genie or mermaid?

It is never too late to tat a TIAS (tat it and see).   If you feel like tatting along, here is the lind to the Tat it and see (TIAS) blog.

You can also look back to see what was done in previous years.

I am using a size 20 Grape Pomegranate.

The current size is about 3 inches long.

Stole My Heart

In May of 2013 I was working full time and a coworker brought in some tatting that an Aunt had gifted her.  She unwrapped the tissue and inside was a beautiful blue cross.

I hadn't seen any tatting for a while and awed at the lovely knots all lined up.  I told her that my mother had taught me to tat almost 50 years ago but I only did one hanky and then never did another stitch.

With my interest now piqued, I started to browse the internet for samples of tatting.  It was this heart that I saw and had to know how to make it.  One day I was able to track down the pattern and purchased it on etsy.  As happenchance would have it the gal who designed this and who I purchased the pattern from  lived in the same city.

It was destiny and tatting became my passion for the next five years.  I tatted this heart up quickly tonight adding a SSSR at the top should I turn these into earrings.  I used a DMC pearl 12 , measures 3 cm or 1.25 inches long.

I still love this little heart that stole my heart.

And They're Off

Between all the tatting events happening this month I found some time to tat up a few squares for the Let's tat a Brussels' monument. I did not develop my own square but did adapt the pattern  somewhat to make it easier for me to tat.

Working with a shuttle and ball of thread I started with a ring adding a magic loop on the last 5 stitches. I used reverse stitches for the centre arches. I waited until the last centre arch to join them and used a swirl join.

Finally adding another magic loop to the last five stitches before attaching to the base of the first ring.   Snip snip and done.

These were made with Opera 20 (586). I'll post tomorrow and hope they arrive safely along with my wishes for women.

Day 11 & 12 TIAS 2018

There is one picot under that right side that will probably finish up the arm.  Those two picots at the bottom still need to be dealt with too.

Wiosna 2018 Row 3

Row 3 has been posted on Renulek's blog and I have almost completed the round.  I am ready to start the split ring to climb on to round 4 but I am not sure what picot would work best.  By best I mean what do I need to do to finish the round and make it easier to go on to the next round and so on.

If you have never made a split chain this is a good reason to learn how to do it. Just estimate a bit shorter as all that tugging will make it grow anyways. Also, if you get a point, these usually disappear by the time you get to the next round.

I am using a King Tut Quilting thread by Superior Threads color 918.  This thread is much easier to use than the Sulky thread I used a few years ago. The current size is 2 inches or 5.5 cm

Day 10 TIAS 2018

Around the top of the head and another bead put in for some eyes.  Remember those two little picots at the bottom will need something attached to them.

Many guesses including mine are that this is a little mermaid.  And I am not a stranger to them.

I give you a picture of my niece who makes a lovely mermaid.  You can see more of her on Instagram @mermaid_amatheia.

Day 9 TIAS 2018

We must be past the halfway mark at Day 9. One of the beads has been used and my guess is that Jane will continue around and put the other bead on another split ring.

A lot of people on the TIAS blog are guessing that this is a mermaid but Jane won't give it away. We find out when we are done.

It is never too late to tat a TIAS (tat it and see). If you feel like tatting along, here is the link to the Tat It and See (TIAS) blog.  You can see what others are doing and look back to what was tatted in previous years.

I am using a size 20 Lizbeth Grape Pomegranate.

Day 8 TIAS 2018

Here we are at day 8 about half way through.  I have put a guess in that this is a mermaid and we need to finish up the head, another arm and the fluke or tail fin.  I have never guessed correctly, perhaps this time.

It is never too late to tat a TIAS (tat it and see). If you feel like tatting along, here is the link to the Tat it and see (TIAS) blog.  You can also look back to see what was done in previous years.

I am using a size 20 Grape Pomegranate.

Wiosna 2018 Row 2

I have now completed row 2 of Renulek Spring Doily aka Wiosna 2018.  It is still tiny, only 3 cm or 1.13 inches across. I am using a King Tut Thread color 918.

This center is similar to a recent snowflake of hers I did.  The King Tut Thread tends to show a little wear as you tat so I will be putting the doily into a ziplock bag and only have the edge I am working on peeking out to reduce that wear.

Renata has provided Row 1 of the Wiosna 2018 on her blog and will post every Thursday.  You can also purchase the complete instructions on her Etsy page.

Day 7 TIAS 2018

My split rings in this last installment have curled up, not like the diagram at all.  I am not worried as Jane always has surprises in the Tat it and See.

If you feel like tatting along, here is the link to the Tat it and see (TIAS) blog.  You can also look back to see what was done in previous years. It is never too late to start.

I am using a size 20 Grape Pomegranate.

Wiosna 2018 Row 1

Today is Thursday so that means that another row will be revealed by Renulek.  I am using a King Tut Thread color 918. Because of the short color change it will be interesting to see if one color dominates or disappears.

It is smaller than size 80 and a bit twisty so you need to adjust your tatting.  I used this before when I put trim on some shirts last year.

Renata has provided Row 1 of the Wiosna 2018 on her blog and will post every Thursday.  You can also purchase the complete instructions on her Etsy page.
