Day 6 TIAS 2018

Day 6 still does not bring us any closer to knowing what this will be.  I still have those two little beads on my shuttle so I know we still need to make the eyes.

My most recent guess is that this is a cone shaped had and there will be a pompom tatted for those two picots on the end of the curled part.  Jane never tells us if we are right until near the end.  There will probably be another ten installments so more chances to guess

If you feel like tatting along, here is the link to the Tat it and see (TIAS) blog.  You can also look back to see what was done in previous years. It is never too late to start.

I am using a size 20 Grape Pomegranate.

Renata has provided Row 1 of the Wiosna 2018 on her blog and will post every Thursday.  You can also purchase the complete instructions on her Etsy page.

Day 5 TIAS 2018

If you are tatting along, Jane says tomorrow will be Day 6 but I am always a day behind.

I could stay up very late and catch the post as it appears but I am more inclined to tat in the evening which means by the time I sit down to tat, Jane has already posted and received many entries, updated the blog and off to bed.  So when I send in my tatting she is sleeping and it will be posted the next day.  No need to rush.

This is not a contest of time, rather joy in participation.

Day 4 TIAS 2018

Jane has only given us a few more rings so I don't have a guess yet. But that last ring is so small it looks like one big knot.

Keep watching as a new set of instructions arrive every few days.

Yahoo

Originally these were  made to wear during the Calgary Stampede but now six months later they have finally come off the shuttles.  I  was  thinking of adding a bead and tried a few things but this is how they ended up.

The pattern was brought to my attention from another tatter and the credit will be given to a group effort led by Louine Teague. My notes say she originally created as a needle pattern.  I think you could add a bead or sequin where the spurs are, I just made a little throw ring.

The thread is a size 40 Lizbeth sample from Shuttlebirds 2017.

BTW Shuttlebirds registration is open and filling up fast.

Day 3 TIAS 2018

Just an update on the progress. Still guessing what it could be.

Day 2 TIAS 2018

Part of the game is to give a guess as to what it could be along with your progress.  Since Jane loves to tat animals, I guess a penguin.  As this row of split rings has picots on both sides it makes sense that we have started in the middle.

Keep watching as a new set of instructions are due tomorrow.

Day 1 TIAS 2018

If you need a little pick me up just follow along from tatters around the world as they tat together.  Jane Eborall will give out a few stitches at least once a week and we send in pics of our little bits and guess what it will be.  So much fun to see all the shuttles and threads used and of course to see who will be the first to correctly guess.

Renulek Snowflakes

These are the last of the snowflakes I tatted last year.  They are both from the Renulek blog.  The designer Renata Niemczyk also has an Etsy page where she sells tatting patterns.  There is still one more snowflake of her's I just didn't get to yet.  Renata is an excellent designer.

For the past few years she has given us a Spring Doily to tat along with others. She will post the next round about once a week.  I completed my first doily following her along row by row.  It was not my best work but I learned a lot that year.

First Snow

I used Lizbeth  size 20  color 601, the finished flake measures 3.25 inches or 8 cm across.  I used a split ring/chain to climb to the next row.

I originally saw this pattern on Instagram @tattingweed but you can also find it on her blog.

The pattern can be made in a variety of ways, this is the first version.  This pattern is by Ha Mi-Kyeong but you may know her by her book "Tatting lace with your life". I purchased the book at a conference a while back.

The book is in Korean but has excellent pictures and diagrams.  It uses QR codes which you can use with your smart phone to link to tutorials.  Not a book for beginners but beautiful tatting.

I've yet to try one of her patterns in this book.

Crystal Angel Ornaments

When mom replaced her crystal chandelier with a more modern one I had hopes of rewiring it and using it but that never happened.  As time passed I revisited that box and recycled the metal parts, re-purposing the parts I could.  My first attempt at crystal angels are these three.

The first crystal angel you have seen before when I purchased it in St. Jacobs this past fall.  I'm not sure what chemical is added to the crystal but it reflects like a rainbow. The crystal itself is quite flat.  The wing pattern is from the online tatting class Angel Wings for IOLI 2007 Convention. The angel measures 2.5 inches tall.

The second angel is from mom's chandelier and the two crystals measure 2.5 inches tall. I used the wing pattern from Jennifer Williams Christmas angel, you make two and attach them together. Here is the link.

The final angel is from mom's chandelier and the crystals are quite large.  This pattern is from Agnieszka Michalowska and is a very frilly coaster, I used split rings and chains to make it in one pass.  Once attached the tatting covers both sides of the bottom crystal.  This angel measures 3.5 inches long.  The top crystal is beveled and flat on one side, beveled and pointed on the other. The lower crystal is rounded on both sides.  All the wings are made with a DMC 12 Pearl Cotton.

I have hung them up in my window waiting for the sun to separate the light and bring rainbows of color across the kitchen.  I'm thinking that a halo of tatting can be added too.

Weeks ago I had taken a picture of all the crystals once I had washed them and they were sitting on a towel to dry.  I think I may have given out a few but I still have many to craft into angels and icedrops.  Further suggestions for use of these crystals is welcomed.

Finally, wind your shuttles as the Tat it and see TIAS 2018 is almost here. Read the introduction here

Blizzard of Josephine Rings

Well here is another flake called "Blizzard"  by Harolahlala and the link to the pattern is here or on her facebook page  The Shade Tree Designer Tatting.

I took quite a few liberties with this pattern and made rounds one and two together and I omitted the chain between the center rings.

As I tatted I found I could not close the smaller Josephine Rings and substituted a small "normal" ring.  You really need to "like" Josephine Rings when doing this pattern.

I used a soft DMC Pearl cotton No. 12 and that may have contributed to my difficulty with the smaller JR's.  Make all picots small, as they are used only for joining in this pattern.  My finished flake is 8.5 cm or 3.25 inches tip to tip.
