I acquire shuttles in a number of ways. This one was in a package with some England Aero Shuttles I was after on Ebay. This black Carnation shuttle is my first shuttle with a trademark on it.
My understanding is that these were given out to promote Carnation Evaporated Milk in the 1920's. I've seen pictures of others but they were white shuttles.
I will share some of my other unique shuttles later on the blog.
My task this spring is to clean up some of the unfinished projects in my tatting cupboard.
I have been tatting, I am on the last round of the Wiosna 2018 pattern by Renulek. I am halfway around.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that’s an unusual shuttle. Well done.
Thanks Jane, I am putting together a shuttle display for when I do tatting demo's.
ReplyDeleteNever seen one like that. Good find Bernice.
ReplyDeleteCan’t wait to see your others.

DeleteWow, Lucky, lucky find! I have never heard of that make. Looks nice. Does it feel good to work?
ReplyDeleteIt has a bit of thread on so I made a ring, Nice average sized shuttle, 2.75 inches or 7 cm. There is some wear on one tip.
DeleteThat’s interesting. I wonder how many of the promotion shuttles were ever put to use.
